Ava Parks and Recreation

Situated in the heart of the hills, Ava and Douglas County are a recreational paradise.

Sportsmen flock to this area to hunt deer, turkey, squirrels, rabbit, raccoon and other small game that live in our woodlands. Fishing and canoeing in our clean, sparkling streams is another favorite past time. In addition to our own local streams, Bull Shoals Lake is just 30 minutes south of town, so boating, water skiing and other water sports are available just a stone’s throw away.

In the city of Ava, a variety of recreational options are available. The City has two parks. Militia Springs Park is located in the NE part of town on 3rd Street. Prairie Creek runs through the park which has playground equipment, barbecue grills and covered picnic tables. The Ava City Park is equipped with a baseball diamond, soccer field, Olympic sized swimming pool, tennis courts, multi-purpose trail, picnic pavilion, as well as picnic tables placed throughout the park. Ava has a beautiful country club with a nine hole golf course.

The Parks and Recreation Department sponsor a complete Summer Baseball program and a complete Spring & Fall Soccer program. The Ava Soccer Association programs are open to youth ages 3 years through 8th grade. Each program provides a five-week session followed by a tournament, with a cost of $15 per participant (up to 4 children per family) with a cap of $50 per family. These games are all played on Saturdays at the Ava City Park.

If sports is not your pleasure, then Ava has other possibilities for you. The Douglas County Public Library has a huge supply of books, Internet access, and various summer programs for children. Filled with exhibits and artifacts from a by-gone era, the Douglas County Museum is a great place to while away an afternoon. Ava also has several antique shops to browse through so if you are an antique buff you should definitely make plans to visit those. During the summer months, Thursday nights are very special with music and singing in the Ava Family Theater located just south of the square. If you enjoy good music, then come, bring your family, invite your friends and join in on the fun.

Ava and the surrounding area have something to offer everyone in the way of recreation. Come and explore the possibilities.
