Welcome!

Landscaping CompletedAs mayor of the City of Ava, I would like to welcome you to our community! We are located in the Ozark Mountains and Ava is truly a treasure. We are blessed with forests, streams, friendly residents, fascinating historical and cultural heritage, and diverse educational opportunities. For that reason we have formally adopted the motto “Ava-Treasure of the Ozarks”.

Ava offers a small town atmosphere, down home celebrations and festivals, and a Triple A school system. Ava is the national head quarters of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association, which holds two annual festivals, spring and fall, drawing thousands to our community. We are also part of the Mark Twain National Forest, where we have a Glade Top Trail festival each year celebrating the beauty of the Ozark Mountains.

Our Business community is diverse with many locally owned and operated businesses as well as large corporate franchised businesses. We are also the county seat of Douglas County and the only town in our county of 13,500 residents. Our county is almost 900 square miles in area.

Ava also has several recreational opportunities. Our main park area has a large swimming pool which is open all summer. We have a movie theater, country club with a 9 hole golf course, walking trails, tennis courts, and pavilions within the park for family activities. We also have many civil organizations such as our Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Kiwanis Club as well as fraternal organizations.

Our Biggest treasure is our quality of life. It offers a place to live, work, play, and raise a family in a small town atmosphere, all with people who care. Again, welcome to Ava! If you have any questions regarding our city please feel free to drop by our Ava City Hall, located at 127 SW 2nd Avenue, just off the southwest corner of the square. Our office hours are 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, or you may call us at 417-683-5516.
